Abraham and Jesus

Genesis 22 is a tremendous true story of Abraham’s faith as he was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac in obedience to God, though fortunately God stopped him from doing so.

Even greater though, this event foretold what God would later do many centuries later when he killed his only son Jesus for us!

Genesis 22:7-8 “Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.”

Listen and ponder the awesomeness of God’s plan for our salvation.

  1. Where did you get it from the God killed Jesus? It were men who brought the son of God to death. It was also this sent one from God, the son of man and son of God who offered himself as a ransom for all sinners.

    1. Great question. Thank you for asking! The Bible indicates that God the Father delivered his only begotten son Jesus over to evil humans in order to sacrifice him for the sins of the world, and Jesus willingly cooperated with this. This does not absolve the human executioners, including Roman and Jewish officials and soldiers and others, of their guilt for this evil act, but they were unknowingly instruments God used to accomplish his purpose in giving his only begotten son as payment for our sins. This was all part of God’s amazing plan foretold for many centuries through the Old Testament prophets. Here are some verses: Isaiah 53:10a “But the LORD was pleased to crush Him, putting Him to grief; If He would render Himself as a guilt offering.” Acts 2:23 “this Man, delivered over by the predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, you nailed to a cross by the hands of godless men and put Him to death.” Romans 3:24b-25a “Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith.”, Romans 8:32 “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all…” Philippians 2:8 “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

      1. We do agree that God gave His son (as you rightly say) and did not come Himself to earth, but used that man of flesh and blood in His plan to give man a chance to show His truthfulness to God and watching if man would do the Will of God, what Jesus did (putting his own will aside) so that Jesus showed the world a man can be obedient to his Creator. God giving His son to the world, allowing His Plan of salvation to come into existence, and as such having His son being killed, we would not say that He killed His son, and as such you too could better have said “God having His son being killed”.
